When we think of exfoliating the skin, we often think of salt – a natural, effective, and simple ingredient that leaves the body smooth and radiant. Sea salt is indeed an excellent exfoliant for the body: it mechanically removes dead skin cells and stimulates microcirculation. However, when it comes to facial care, things are a little different. Naturally crystallised sea salt, with its coarse texture, is a bit too harsh for delicate facial skin.
The skin on our face is thinner, more sensitive, and more exposed to daily environmental factors – which is why it requires a gentler approach. During the development of the Lepa Vida natural facial scrub, we asked ourselves: How can we achieve deep cleansing without irritating the skin?
We found the answer in specially dried salt-pan mud, which is then ground into a mineral-rich powder that gently removes impurities and dead skin cells. To this, we added fruit enzymes that exfoliate the skin’s surface without friction. The synergy of these two ingredients creates the perfect balance between effectiveness and gentleness – making it an ideal base for clean, radiant, and smooth facial skin.
Salt-pan mud and fruit enzymes: a safe path to naturally glowing skin
Enzyme-based exfoliants, such as papain and bromelain (extracted from papaya and pineapple), gently exfoliate dead skin and support the regeneration of the epidermis. These are proteolytic enzymes that break down keratin – meaning they dissolve the bonds holding dead skin cells together.
This results in gentle surface cleansing, enhanced cell renewal, and improved absorption of active ingredients. Unlike some aggressive acids (AHA/BHA), enzymes do not irritate the skin and provide a much more controlled exfoliation process.
Recent studies on the use of salt-pan mud* have shown that regular application improves skin hydration and strengthens the skin barrier. After use, the skin appears smoother, firmer, and more elastic. Regular application also helps normalize sebum production, indicating an overall improvement in skin condition. The positive effects are attributed to the high mineral content of the mud.

We’ve added fine bamboo powder granules for a mild mechanical smoothing effect, and kaolin clay, which further purifies, mattifies, and tightens the pores.
