This Friday, 16 June 2023, at 7 pm, we warmly invite you to the opening of the new exhibition in our Caserma Gallery, at the Sečovlje Saline Nature Park. The renowned artist Boris Selan will once again inspire us with his artistic masterpieces, collected under the title " Symbolism and Eros".
Boris Selan is a well-known artist both in Slovenia and beyond. The art historian Monika Ivančič Fajfar once wrote: "Boris Selan's paintings show a good knowledge of the history of art, especially of those movements of the early twentieth century that completely changed the view of painting and had a fatal influence on its later development. The artist combines various elements introduced into painting by Cubism, Fauvism, Futurism and Expressionism, led by great masters such as Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Umberto Boccioni and Franz Marc." Just like Ivančič Fajfarjeva, the curators of the esteemed Agora Gallery (Manhattan, New York), where the artist exhibited in 2012, describe him as a daring artist who has a perfect command of colour, form and composition in his oils. These are works that revive Cubist imagery and can be compared to the works of Duchamp, Picasso and the Art Deco style of the early twentieth century.
The evening will be enriched by a short presentation of the painter and his works, as well as by original music on the theme of the exhibited works by art historian and art critic Nuša Podgornik, and art historian, musician and composer Lado Jakša.
The exhibition will be on view from 17 June to 22 July 2023 between 9 am and 8 pm.
