SOLINE Pridelava soli d. o. o. produces several types of sea salt, extracted by means of natural salt crystallisation processes on salt basins. Its applicability is truly varied.
PIRAN SALT is produced according to an approved traditional procedure. Salt from PIRAN SALT-WORKS is produced according to an almost 700-year-old tradition and only with traditional tools. The basic process is natural crystallisation on salt-fields, where salt is collected on a bio-sediment base of a few millimetres thickness called PETOLA, composed of minerals and micro-organisms.
The harvest only depends on the forces of nature - of the sun, wind, sea, and the assiduous work of the salt pan workers. The salt from the Sečovlje Salina Nature Park is light, rich in minerals of the sea, and of an exceptional taste that provides dishes with extra culinary exceptionalness.
In 2005, the company successfully completed the certification process carried out by Bureau Veritas, the authorised certification house of the Slovenian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Food, for a top-notch product with a long tradition – PIRAN SALT with the denomination of origin.
Foods that carry the designation of origin are closely linked to the area whose name they carry. Two conditions must be met: firstly, all production, processing, and market preparation processes must take place within a specific geographic area, whose name is carried by the products, and secondly, the product must possess properties resulting from natural or human-made factors of a specific geographic environment.
This means that the product must differ from a similar one in terms of distinct production and composition features, prescribed production rules must be adhered to and the product must be subject to strict monitoring by a certification body.
PIRAN SALT with the denomination of origin is non-milled, non-refined, rich in minerals of the sea, is of an exceptional taste, and complemented by local crystal-mother water. On average, the mineral composition of PIRAN SALT with the denomination of origin is richer than the mineral composition of refined sea salts and is appropriate for all types of diets. It is intended for all who appreciate tradition and who swear by natural foods. Modern culinary arts are increasingly returning to the original form of salt - natural crystals - that is as old as production of salt itself. It goes well with dishes whose preparation does not affect its original taste, but which are thus provided with an air of the area where the salt originates.
PIRAN SALTWORKS are a trademark of preserving a protected natural environment. Emphasising the fragility of the natural environment in salt works as well as the concern for heritage must raise awareness that these products result from natural resources related to the Mediterranean salt-work heritage.
